Family Based Therapy

During Family Based Therapy (FBT) we explore our ways and capacity of relating and we are invited to explore relating differently. The focus is improved relationship skills and a greater sense of confidence in managing different and often challenging situations. The therapist facilitates this process of change within the family while supporting the family in finding solutions that work best for them.

To be aware of what we bring to a relationship from our family history is important. While some of this may be of benefit some may not. During FBT we look at those parts that we would like to change for a healthier relationship. We work with FBT for many of the problems that can occur in families, whether they involve couples, parents and children, or children among themselves. Although this process can take some time and patience it is worth it to resolve long standing problems.

Amanda believes in addressing communication, family members can learn how to better share their thoughts and needs and resolve conflicts in a way that is less likely to damage relationships. Family therapy also focuses on how family members can address an individual family member’s difficulty.
For example, if one family member has a mental health condition, family therapy can help alter some conditions that sometimes contribute to the problem. Amanda works with individuals, couples and families utilising systemic, structural, strategic and transgenerational styles of family therapy.

At Cúraim we appreciate the importance of finding the right therapist.

For this reason we offer an initial free consultation done over the phone to help you find the right therapist.
The initial consultation is offered through a senior therapist who is familiar with our full team of therapists.
